Life

Jeffery Beardsall spent his childhood and youth in Wales and England. His artistic training began in 1960 at Sheffield College of Arts . From 1963 he studied at the renowned Slade School of Fine Art at University College London . He completed his studies there in 1967 with a diploma in fine arts and - after a postgraduate college - in printmaking. His teachers included Frank Auerbach , Sir William Coldstream and Anthony Gross , among others . In the same year he founded Studio Prints in London . Two years later he moved to New York to continue his work with his second company, Studio Prints II . Beardsall began to make a name for himself with the production of original monotypes for Motherwell and etchings for Salvador Dalí . During this time Jeffery Beardsall developed a printing process for the production of monotypes on paper, which became groundbreaking for his own artistic work. In 1975 he received the John S. Guggenheim Fellowship for this special method of paper folding and direct printing . From now on Beardsall concentrated entirely on his own artistic work. Jeffery Beardsall has lived in Stuttgart since 1985.

Jeffery Beardsall's work does not fit into any well-known category. He paints on paper and canvas and moves in his motifs between abstraction and figurative elements, essentially inspired by diverse travel impressions from North and South America , Africa and Europe . The background of the pictures are mostly monotypes on paper, which gain their unmistakable, mostly plastic character through their special folding as well as painterly components with chalk , oils , acrylic and pigments.

In the process of creating the monotype, Jeffery Beardsall sees himself as an integral, equal component. In addition to the planned design, chance is given a constituent scope. Above all, colors in their entire spectrum, their combination and luminosity as well as their energetic effect on the viewer play a very special role in the artist's work. He also proves this with the words “To make color sing… I want people to be able to enter the painting by the emotion of colors, movement and not by theories of someone talking about my work.”

Jeffery Beardsall has received numerous international prizes and awards for his work. This includes:

  • John S. Guggenheim Fellowship ( USA )
  • Print Making Award (England)
  • Post Graduate Print Making Award (England)
  • The Samuel Biggin Painting Prize (England)

The works are represented in international museums such as B. in the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart , Musee d´Art et Histoire Geneve , Whitney Museum of American Art , Museum of Modern Art Towers in New York.
