Jens Gunter Rohwer (born January 2, 1958 in Uetersen ) is a German biologist and professor at the University of Hamburg . His botanical author's abbreviation is " Rohwer ".

Career

Rohwer received his diploma in biology from the University of Hamburg in 1982 and received his doctorate in 1986 under Klaus Kubitzki at the Institute for General Botany. From 1986 to 1989 he received a postdoctoral fellowship from the German Research Foundation and worked for a year at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis as part of this postdoctoral project . From 1991 to 1997 he worked as a scientific assistant to Peter Leins at the Institute for Systematic Botany at the Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg , mainly on the fruit and seed anatomy of the Oleaceae . He qualified as a professor in 1996 in systematic botany . Between 1997 and 2000 he received a Heisenberg grant from the German Research Foundation at the University of Mainz , where he began to investigate the molecular systematics of the Lauraceae . Jens Rohwer has held a professorship for plant biodiversity at the University of Hamburg since 2000 . From 2004 to 2009 he was chairman of the doctoral committee for biology.

He has been co-editor of Schmeil-Fitschen since the 96th edition in 2016 .

Research priorities

Jens Rohwer researches the evolution , phylogeny and systematics of various groups of vascular plants - in particular the Lauraceae , one of the most species-rich and ecologically important families of tropical and subtropical forests worldwide. In addition, molecular systematic studies on the population biology of various plants from African arid regions are carried out in his laboratory (in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Norbert Jürgens ). Further areas of work are anatomy and micromorphology, especially of leaf surfaces and pollen grains.
