Jens Meurer
Jens Meurer (* 1963 in Nuremberg ) is a German film producer , director and screenwriter .
life and career
Jens Meurer grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa , from the age of 12 . He began his career as a sports reporter and editor for the West Rand Times in Krugersdorp . Meurer studied at Balliol College in Oxford , Sciences Po in Paris and Columbia University in New York City .
From the end of the 1980s Meurer made his first documentaries . Several documentary films were made about the collapse of the Soviet Union , the overcoming of apartheid in South Africa and the history of the Jecken .
In 1992 he founded his production company Egoli Films . Meurer was awarded the European Film Prize for Best Documentary in 1995 for his work .
In 2001 the company merged with Judy Tossells Tossell Pictures to form Egoli Tossell Film . Meurer and Tossell met in 1984 while studying at Balliol College. Since then, Meurer has produced not only local films, but also international films such as Russian Ark , Black Book , Ein Russischer Sommer , Carlos - Der Schakal , Drecksau and Big Game .
After a foreign production partner left, Egoli Tossell Film had to file for bankruptcy in January 2011 due to liquidity problems. In June 2012 the company was restructured through an insolvency plan procedure. In 2016 the name was changed to Egoli Tossell Pictures (Judy Tossell and Jens Meurer). In 2013 Meurer founded Instant Film as a vehicle for his projects as a director.
He lives and works in Berlin .
