Jeong Kyeong-doo (* 1960 in Jinju , Gyeongsangnam-do ) is a retired South Korean politician and general in the South Korean Air Force . He has been South Korea's Minister of Defense since September 21, 2018 . From August 20, 2017 to September 21, 2018, he was the 40th Chairman of the General Staff of the entire South Korean Armed Forces .

Career

Jeong Kyeong-doo graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1982 and completed his academic career in 2002 with a Master of Management from Hannam University . In 1995 he studied at the Air Command and Staff Course of the Japanese Air Self-Defense Forces (JASDF) and in 2005 he studied at the JASDF Air War Course.

He served in various command functions in the South Korean Air Force, whose 35th Chief of Staff he became in 2015. In 2017 he was promoted to the 40th chairman of the general staff of the entire South Korean armed forces .

On September 21, 2018, he took over the ministerial post in the Ministry of Defense from predecessor Song Young-moo .
