Han Min-goo (born August 30, 1953 in Cheongju , Chungcheongbuk-do ) is a retired South Korean politician and general . He was South Korea's Minister of Defense from July 1, 2014 to July 13, 2017 .
Career
Han Min-goo graduated from the Military Academy with a Bachelor of Science in 1975 and completed his academic career with a Bachelor of Arts in Western History from Seoul National University in 1979 and a Master of Arts in Foreign Policy and National Security from Yonsei University in 1992 . He served in various command functions in the South Korean Army , whose 40th Chief of Staff he became in 2009. In 2010 he was promoted to 36th Chairman of the General Staff of the entire South Korean Armed Forces .
On July 1, 2014, he took over the ministerial post in the Ministry of Defense from his predecessor Kim Kwan-jin , which he held until July 13, 2017. He was replaced by Song Young-moo .
