Jeremias Chauvet (* around 1619; † August 13, 1699 in Celle ) was a field marshal of Electoral Saxony .

It is believed that he was born in Lorraine. He is said to have come to Celle with Eleonore d'Olbreuse, who later became the wife of Duke Georg Wilhelms . In 1670 he became a colonel and chief of the 2nd squadron of the 3rd cavalry regiment, in 1674 major general, in 1675 lieutenant general and later field marshal. He fought with the Duke in the battle of Ensisheim against Marshal Turenne . There Chauvet commanded the left wing under the Duke of Holstein-Plön. In 1675 he fought in the battle of the Konzer Bridge near Trier and was able to conquer Saarbrücken. He fought in the campaign against Bremen-Verden and successfully besieged Stade. During the Turkish campaign of 1685 he commanded the Hanoverian troops in the battle of Gran and in the assault on Neuheusel. When he returned in 1690 he was sent to Luxembourg to observe the French army.

Chauvet was employed on May 11, 1693 as electoral Saxon field marshal and commanded the Electoral Saxon troops on the Rhine during the War of the Palatinate Succession under Johann Georg IV . He wanted many innovations, but these were rejected by the officer corps, so he soon resigned. In August of the same year he asked for his release, which he was refused with expressions of appreciation and grace, but which he received after repeated requests in November. He lived for a while as a private citizen in Frankfurt am Main , but after a while he returned to the court in Celle, where the Duke also gave him a pension. He died at the age of eighty in Celle, where he was buried on August 16 amid three bells in the town church there.
