Jernej Pikalo (2013)

Jernej Pikalo (born May 30, 1975 in Slovenj Gradec , Yugoslavia , today Slovenia ) is a Slovenian political scientist and politician ( Socialni democi ).

Life

He studied at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana , where he graduated in International Relations in 1998 and obtained his PhD in Political Science in 2003 . While working on his dissertation on the topic: The nation state in times of globalization - Is a cosmopolitan democracy possible? he was visiting scholar at the University of Warwick . He has been an associate professor at the University of Ljubljana since 2008, and is also a permanent visiting professor at the European Interuniversity Center for Human Rights and Democratisation in Venice and at the Bifröst Business School in Iceland.

He was a member of the Radio Televizija Slovenija Broadcasting Council. From March 2013 he was Minister for Education, Science and Sport in the government of Alenka Bratušek . His tenure ended with the formation of the Cerar cabinet in September 2014, in which Stanka Setnikar Cankar became his successor. In the Šarec cabinet, which has been in office since September 2018 , Pikalo is again Minister for Education, Science and Sport.
