About this picture
Location of Jesar in Nienburg (Saale)

Jesar is a district of Nienburg (Saale) , Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt . It has about 90 inhabitants and is located on the Saale between Calbe (Saale) and Nienburg.

The name Jesar is of Sorbian origin and is derived from the Slavic jezero , which can be translated as lake or pond. It reflects the water-rich prehistoric landscape here on the lower reaches of the Saale with its low gradient and many stagnant bodies of water. The founding of this place therefore took place during the Slavic settlement period from the 7th century onwards, without any documentary information from this time being available.

The border between the districts of Schönebeck and Bernburg ran between Jesar and Damaschkeplan, which was abolished on July 1, 2007 with the creation of the Salzlandkreis . The residential areas are on the left when coming from Calbe. The village is built up between the street and the banks of the Saale. The Bernburg-Calbe railway line runs along the road, but Jesar does not have its own train station. The next train station was initially Damaschkeplan, after its closure now Nienburg.

There was already a settlement here in the Bronze Age. Archaeological finds confirm settlement remains and a burial mound. In terms of history, not much is otherwise known, except for the "Wüstung Jesar" and that Jesar used to belong to the Bernburg district. The municipality of Wedlitz is located directly on the opposite side of the Saale .
