Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter is a 1965 American trash film , a genre mix of western and horror film with Steven Geray as Dr. Frankenstein, Narda Onyx as his sister and John Lupton as western legend Jesse James .

action

Wild West, 1880s. Maria Frankenstein is the granddaughter - not the daughter, as the title falsely suggests - of the famous monster experimenter. She and her brother Rudolph fled to the United States from Austria, where the judiciary was pursuing them for their illegal human experiments, in order to continue his research in the spirit of their legendary ancestor. They have pitched their tents in a castle-like property. The elevated position of the castle is ideal due to certain weather phenomena: The Frankensteins expect the local thunderstorms to provide a better supply of energy, which they urgently need for their experiments. In addition, the neighboring Wild West town has plenty of more or less abandoned immigrant children who are supposed to be abused and sacrificed for the experiments. While Maria murders the unsuspecting youngsters and implanted artificial brains in them in order to turn them into unwilling slaves, Brother Rudolph is far more scrupulous. He disapproves of Mary's actions. But he lacks the courage to resist her and thwart her terrible actions. Maria Frankenstein's death rate is enormous, and she soon has difficulties hiding the children's corpses well. The first residents of the village soon flee in the face of the creepy events, including Manuel Lopez with his wife Nina and the already grown daughter Juanita after the Lopez son had previously disappeared without a trace.

The second storyline features Jesse James, the infamous lawbreaker who brings along his sidekick Hank Tracy, a brutal, stupid executor of James' will. The outlaw was completely unsuccessful in a stagecoach robbery, and so he, Hank and the racy Juanita Lopez, who joins the two outlaws, are fleeing from the mounted law enforcement officers in the village. At Doktores Frankenstein, they hope to get medical care for Hank, who was seriously injured in the robbery. Maria sees this as an ideal opportunity to make Hank her last patient, because Grandpa's last artificial brain still has to be transplanted. While Jesse James is sent to the town by Maria to pick something up from the pharmacist, the Frankenstein granddaughter begins the operation. Rudolph wants to end this madness for good and poison Hank, who has now become Maria's creature "Igor". When Maria gets wind of this, she orders Igor to strangle Rudolph.

Meanwhile, Jesse James is recognized by the pharmacist, and he notifies the sheriff that he may arrest the wanted criminal. Since the sheriff is currently elsewhere, his limited deputy, Lonny, sets off. He wants to take the credit for arresting Jesse James himself. It goes completely wrong, and soon Lonny is mouse dead. Jesse returns to the Frankenstein'sche domicile and is there by his former friend Hank, reversed to "Igor", paralyzed and tied up. Juanita, who has long since kept an eye on the smart outlaw, suspects terrible things and would rather see Jesse in the hands of the sheriff than under Maria Frankenstein's scalpel. And so she informs the law enforcement officer, who is advancing to take the sniper into custody. However, Maria does not allow this and sends her puppet Igor to crush the sheriff. A wild scuffle ensues, during which Juanita frees Jesse and tries to escape. Now Maria gives Igor orders to strangle the pretty Juanita, but instead he puts his hands on Maria's neck and squeezes. When the misdirected Igor wants to lend a hand to Jesse, Juanita grabs Jesse's Colt and shoots the outlaw's former friend. The following morning, Jesse buried James Hank, aka Igor, and surrendered himself to the sheriff who survived Igor's attack. Juanita is left alone.

Reviews

"Low budget nonsense."

- Leonard Maltin : Movie & Video Guide, 1996 edition, p. 668

“What could have ended in a bizarre way unfortunately sucks everywhere. Primarily because the majority of the running time the two antagonists, Jesse James and Maria Frankenstein, are practically in different films. "
