Jesuína Maria Ferreira Gomes is an East Timorese civil servant and human rights activist.

Career

From 1994 Gomes worked in the civil service as an administrative assistant for the Indonesian provincial government of Timor Timur . From 1995 to 1997 she was the secretary and acting head of the Atabae sub-district administration . In 2000 Gomes taught public management at the Universidade Nasionál Timór Lorosa'e (UNTL) . Then she completed a master's degree in public administration from 2002 to 2004 at the University of Hawaii (UH). Back in East Timor, Gomes worked for various international aid organizations ( Peace Corps , USAID , AusAid) and taught again at the UNTL. in July 2009 she became Inspector General in the Ministry of State Administration. On October 13 of the same year Gomes was appointed Commissioner of the Comissão da Função Pública (CFP, German Commission of the Public Service ) by the National Parliament of East Timor . She held the office until 2015. She switched to the Provedoria dos Direitos Humanos e Justiça (PDHJ, German ombudsman for human rights and law ) as the new deputy ombudswoman for good governance . The swearing-in took place on January 14th. In 2018, Gomes was elected ombudswoman of the PDHJ by parliament.
