Rui Pereira dos Santos

Rui Pereira dos Santos (born March 3 ) is an East Timorese lawyer and human rights activist. Since 2016 he has been Deputy Commissioner of the Comissão Anti-Corrupção (CAC), the country's anti- corruption agency .

Career

Santos received a bachelor's degree in law from the Christian University of Satya Wacana ( Indonesian Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana , UKSW) in Salatiga , Java .

Initially, Santos worked as a lawyer for the HAK Association , as a consultant for public institutions and as a lecturer at the Universidade da Paz (UNPAZ). This was followed by the post of judge at the district court of Dili and a commissioner of the Truth and Friendship Commission , which from 2005 to 2008 dealt with the processing of the crimes of 1999 . In April 2010 Santos was appointed Deputy Ombudsman of the Provedoria dos Direitos Humanos e Justiça (PDHJ, German Ombudsman for Human Rights and Law) from the East Timorese National Parliament ) appointed. The PDHJ is the country's national human rights institution and is enshrined in the constitution as an independent organization. His specialty was good governance . After his four-year term of office he was replaced by Jesuína Maria Ferreira Gomes . On February 3, 2016, Santos was appointed by the government as a member of the Supreme Council of Public Prosecutors and in July 2016 replaced José Neves as deputy commissioner of the Comissão Anti-Corrupção.
