Jesus Tuquib

Jesus Balaso Tuquib (born June 27, 1930 in Clarin , Misamis Occidental , Philippines ; † August 1, 2019 in Cagayan de Oro ) was a Filipino clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro .

Life

Jesus Tuquib already entered the small seminary in Argao, Cebu, Philippines. He studied philosophy and theology at the San Carlos Seminary in Mabolo, Cebu, Philippines. He was ordained a priest on March 14, 1959 . In 1964 he completed a degree in secondary education . In 1967 he received his doctorate in theology from the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Manila . Jesus Tuquib taught at the seminary in Bacolod City (1959–1960) and in Bohol (1960–1965), where he was also Prefect. From 1967 to 1972 he was Chancellor of the Dipolog diocese.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on February 24, 1973 first bishop of the newly established Pagadian diocese . He was ordained episcopate on May 29th of the same year by the Bishop of Tagbilaran , Manuel Mascariñas y Morgia ; Co- consecrators were Lino R. Gonzaga y Rasdesales , Archbishop of Zamboanga , and Felix Sanchez Zafra , Bishop of Dipolog .

On March 31, 1984, he was appointed coadjutor archbishop of Cagayan de Oro by Pope John Paul II and was introduced to the office on May 31 of the same year. With the retirement of Patrick H. Cronin SSCME on January 5, 1988 he followed this in the office of Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro.

On March 4, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
