Jim Norton (born January 4, 1938 in Dublin , Ireland ) is an Irish film and theater actor .

Life

From the mid-1960s, Jim Norton took on his first supporting roles in films such as Ich, Dr. Fu Man Chu (1965) or Alfred the Great - Vanquisher of the Vikings (1969). He often took on the roles of spiritual dignitaries, such as B. in the television series Die Füchse (1977), as Father Xavier in the television series Lovejoy (1993), as Father Matthew Corlon in the television series Peak Practice (1998), as Bishop Brennan in the sitcom Father Ted , as Reverend Fischer in Love Divided ( 1999), as a preacher in Sunset Heights (1999), as a preacher in Rebus (2000), as Brother Xavier inKick It with Samba - Hot Rhythms, Great Love (2000) or as Father Moran in Boxed (2003).

For his supporting role as Richard Harkin in the play The Seafarer , he received an Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor (2007) and a Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor.

On Broadway, Norton appeared again from 2009 to 2010 in the musical Finian's Rainbow in the lead role of Finian McLonergan, for which he received outstanding reviews.

In 2011 Norton starred alongside Robert Pattinson , Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz in the literary film adaptation of Water for the Elephants .
