João Muniz Alves

João Muniz Alves OFM (born January 8, 1961 in Carema , Santa Rita , Maranhão , Brazil ) is a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Xingu-Altamira .

Life

João Muniz Alves joined the religious order of the Franciscans in and put on 2 February 1986, the temporal vows from. He made his perpetual profession on January 14, 1991. Alves received on 4 September 1993, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On December 23, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of the Territorial Prelature of Xingu . His predecessor Erwin Kräutler CPPS donated him episcopal ordination on March 5 of the following year . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of São Luís do Maranhão , José Belisário da Silva OFM, and Leonardo Ulrich Steiner OFM, Auxiliary Bishop in Brasília .

With the repeal of the territorial prelature of Xingu and the establishment of the diocese of Xingu-Altamira on November 6, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him the first diocesan bishop of Xingu-Altamira. The inauguration took place on February 1, 2020.
