José Belisário da Silva

José Belisário da Silva OFM (born August 4, 1945 in Carmópolis de Minas , Brazil ) is a Roman Catholic religious and archbishop of São Luís do Maranhão .

Life

José Belisário da Silva joined the order of the Franciscans , studied philosophy in Daltro Filho (today: Imigrante, Rio Grande do Sul ) and theology in Belo Horizonte , made his solemn profession on February 2, 1969 and received on December 13, 1969 Ordination . After years as chaplain in Abaeté and Teófilo Otoni , he was rector of the Seraphic Seminary in Santos Dumont and from 1983 to 1985 lecturer of philosophy. In 1985 he was appointed to the provincial government.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Bacabal on December 1, 1999 . The episcopal ordination donated him the Bishop of Leopoldina , Célio de Oliveira Goulart OFM, on February 19 of the next year; Co- consecrators were Francisco Barroso Filho , Bishop of Oliveira , and Diogo Reesink OFM, Bishop of Teófilo Otoni . As a motto he chose Invisibilem tamquam videns .

He was appointed Archbishop of São Luís do Maranhão on September 21, 2005 and was introduced to the office on November 19 of the same year.
