Joachim Christoph Benckendorff
Joachim Christoph Benckendorff (born January 25, 1605 in Frankfurt (Oder) , Electorate of Brandenburg , † April 11, 1652 in Danzig , Poland-Lithuania ) was a lawyer , electoral Brandenburg councilor and diplomat .
Life
The father Martin Benckendorf was a law professor in Frankfurt (Oder), the mother Margaretha a daughter of the Brandenburg electoral prince Thomas Huebner and sister of the councilor Joachim Huebner .
Joachim Christoph Benckendorff enrolled at the University of Frankfurt (Oder) in 1611 (1621?) And in Konigsberg in 1625 , where he obtained his doctorate in law in 1629. That year he made a long trip through Transylvania to Constantinople , where he took part in talks with the Patriarch Cyril and with the French, English and Dutch envoys.
In 1645 Benckendorff traveled on a secret mission to the Swedish Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna in order to negotiate a possible marriage between the Brandenburg Elector Friedrich Wilhelm and the Swedish Queen Kristina in one of the last years of the Thirty Years' War . Since 1646 he was the Brandenburg resident in Danzig . He died there too.
Joachim Christoph Benckendorff was married to Maria, a daughter of the merchant Heinrich von Durschelen and Maria von Enden, since 1646. The two had the children
