Joachim Heinrich Truchsess von Waldburg

Joachim Heinrich Truchsess von Waldburg (* July 16, 1646 ; † October 14, 1718 ) was a royal Prussian lieutenant general and chief of a battalion on foot, as well as governor of Angerburg .

Life

origin

He was the son of Hans Albrecht Truchsess von Waldburg († 1655) heir to Friedrichstein. His mother was Anna Sybille von Packmohr († 1652), daughter of Christoph Joachim von Packmohr and Dorothea von Lehndorff . His brother Wolfgang Christoph Truchsess von Waldburg was also a Prussian general.

Military career

In 1675 he was lieutenant colonel in the Swedish service and head of a squadron dragoons when the elector Friedrich Wilhelm called him back to Brandenburg. He was supposed to be major in the Hohendorf Dragoon Regiment, but joined the infantry. In 1679 he became colonel and governor (and commander) of the Pillau fortress . In 1692 he was appointed chief of a battalion of four companies, in 1693 major general and 1701 lieutenant general.

In 1706, the Prussian King Friedrich I combined three free companies and two other newly recruited companies into a new battalion. The free companies were previously in Königsberg under the command of Boguslav von Croy , who had died on February 7, 1684.

This battalion took part in the fighting in Italy during the War of the Spanish Succession . Together with the von Heyden battalion it went up in Infantry Regiment No. 26 .

He was married several times. His first wife, Freiin Maria Eleonore von Heydeck (* September 20, 1649 - August 8, 1692), daughter of Eustach von Heydeck and Anna Dorothea Truchseß von Wetzhausen , he married on May 13, 1677. The couple had the following children:
