Joachim Hoffmann (politician)

Joachim Hoffmann (* July 8, 1923 - November 18, 2016 ) was a German politician ( SED ). He was mayor of the East Berlin boroughs of Treptow and Weißensee .

Life

Hoffmann, son of a worker, learned the trade of an administrative clerk. After the Second World War he became a member of the SED and worked in the city district administration of Berlin-Treptow. In 1952 he became head of the finance department and in 1958 city councilor. In 1959 he was first deputy mayor and then acting mayor. As such, he inaugurated the Stelling-Janitzky Bridge with Mayor Friedrich Ebert in March 1960 . Hoffmann, who had suffered a serious car accident in 1960, was not nominated again at the constituent meeting of the Treptow district assembly on September 29, 1961 for health reasons. However, he was elected 1st deputy.

From May 20, 1969 to January 6, 1983, he served as the district mayor of Weißensee. After almost fourteen years of activity, he was recalled and bid farewell to Mayor Erhard Krack . From 1971 to 1981 he was a member of the Berlin city council . On February 10, 1983, he was elected to succeed Kurt Schumann as a member of the Berlin District Committee of the National Front and as the new District Secretary. He held this office for five years. On March 14, 1988, he was again released from his position for health reasons. Hoffmann then retired and lived in Berlin.

Hoffmann died at the age of 93.
