Joachim Küchenhoff

Joachim Küchenhoff (* 1953 in Dortmund ) is a German-Swiss psychiatrist , psychoanalyst and scientist. Until August 2018 he was director of adult psychiatry at Baselland Psychiatry in Liestal (Switzerland). He is chairman of the supervisory board of the International Psychoanalytic University IPU in Berlin and is also a visiting professor there.

Life

Küchenhoff studied human medicine and philosophy in Würzburg , Glasgow and Heidelberg from 1970 to 1976 and received his doctorate in 1978 under Helm Stierlin at the University of Heidelberg with a dissertation on the psychosocial rehabilitation of anus praeter wearers . In 1978 and 1979 he worked as an assistant doctor in the "Acute and General Neurology" department of the Karlsbad-Langensteinbach Hospital in Baden-Württemberg , from 1979 to 1981 in the Weinsberg State Psychiatric Hospital and from 1981 to 1984 in the Heidelberg University Clinic.

In 1984 Küchenhoff became a specialist in psychiatry ; in 1987 the additional titles for psychotherapy and psychoanalysis followed . From 1984 he worked for ten years at the Psychosomatic University Clinic in Heidelberg, first as an assistant doctor, then as a senior doctor and finally as the deputy medical director. In 1992, Küchenhoff completed his habilitation at the University of Heidelberg with a thesis on “Psychosomatic interactions. On the interaction of mental and physical factors in the course of Crohn's disease ”. In 1993 he received the Hans Roemer Prize of the German College for Psychosomatic Medicine (DKPM) for special scientific achievements.

In 1994 he received a call to the University of Basel and became professor for psychiatry and psychotherapy at the Psychiatric University Clinic Basel. In 1996, Küchenhoff acquired the specialist title for psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy. In 2007 he became chief physician of the clinic for psychiatry and psychotherapy of the cantonal psychiatric services Basel-Landschaft in Liestal (since 2012 Psychiatry Baselland). In September 2014 he was appointed medical director of adult psychiatry and chief physician of the private clinic at Baselland psychiatry. Together with Prof. Rolf-Peter Warsitz, he was awarded the Wolfgang Loch Prize in 2016 for outstanding psychoanalytic work. In 2018, Küchenhoff received the Dr. Margrit Egnér Foundation . Today he has a practice for psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in Binningen near Basel (www.praxis-kuechenhoff.ch).

Joachim Küchenhoff's clinical work includes psychopathological and psychodynamic diagnostics, multi-dimensional and integrative therapeutic approaches in psychiatry, the therapist-patient relationship in psychiatry, the treatment of personality disorders , somatoform disorders, depressive disorders and psychotic disorders. His scientific focus is on interdisciplinary research in cultural studies and psychoanalysis , psychoanalytic theory and psychotherapy research , physical experience , the treatment of psychotic disorders and psychosomatics . He published numerous scientific articles, book chapters and monographs (see works).

Küchenhoff is a member of numerous professional associations in Switzerland , Germany and other countries. Among other things, he is actively involved in the permanent commission for further and advanced training of the Swiss Society for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, since 2013 in the scientific advisory board of the Lindau Psychotherapy Weeks , in the scientific advisory board of the umbrella association for German-speaking psychosis psychotherapy and as chairman of the scientific advisory board for the international psychoanalytical organization University of Berlin . Küchenhoff is a member of the Freiburg Working Group on Literature and Psychoanalysis and founded the Basel regional network for further training in psychiatry and psychotherapy in 1996, which he headed until 2018. He is also on the advisory board of numerous specialist journals.

Joachim Küchenhoff lives in Basel and is married to the psychologist and psychotherapist Cordula Olshausen Küchenhoff. He is the father of two children.
