Joachim Kratsch (born December 5, 1937 in Zwickau ) is a German graphic artist and painter . He has lived in Leipzig since 1959 .

Life

After training as a painter from 1951 to 1954, Joachim Kratsch attended the painting and drawing school in Zwickau (MuZ) from 1956 to 1959 under the direction of Carl Michel . He then studied from 1959 to 1964 at the Leipzig University of Graphics and Book Art with Bernhard Heisig .

From 1978 to 2002 Joachim Kratsch was a lecturer in artistic practice at Leipzig University in the field of art education .

In his works, the processed motifs are not so much scenic snapshots as they are metaphors for the life and the network of relationships between the actors shown. The recurring theme are masks and masquerades, which are filled with the basic idea of disguising or hiding the true face.

His study trips include, in particular, trips to Romania and Bulgaria during the GDR era and trips to Italy, particularly Venice.

Joachim Kratsch is a member of the Association of Visual Artists Leipzig eV
