Joachim Rychly (born March 5, 1948 in Rostock ) is a German cell biologist .

Life

After studying the biology and the final on the field of marine and fisheries biology at the University of Rostock doctorate Joachim Rychly 1976 in the Department of Animal Physiology for Dr. rer. nat. on studies of the protein metabolism of trout and eel . In 1979 he moved to the Clinic for Internal Medicine at Rostock University Medical Center , where he completed his habilitation on particle electrophoresis in biology and medicine .

His brother is the former German gymnast and Olympian Reinhard Rychly .

Services

Since 1991 he has held the Facultas Docendi and a professorship in cell biology. After acting as head of the department for clinical research in the clinic for internal medicine, he was head of the center for medical research at the Rostock University Medical Center from 2002 to 2012, where he has headed the cell biology department since 2005. The focus of his cell biological research is the bone , in particular the investigation of the mechanism of the adhesion of bone cells to biomaterial surfaces . In this context, there has been a long-term cooperation between the cell biology department and the Rostock implant coating company DOT.

Rychly is a reviewer for international scientific journals and the founder of the international symposium Interface Biology of Implants , which has been held in Rostock-Warnemünde every three years since 2003 .
