Joachim Scholz (politician)

Joachim Scholz (* 1962 in Stuttgart ) is a non-party German local politician . From October 2008 to September 2016, Scholz was Lord Mayor of the 27,000-inhabitant town of Neckarsulm in the Heilbronn district , Baden-Württemberg ; before that he was mayor of Steinheim an der Murr in the neighboring Ludwigsburg district for twelve years .

Life

Scholz grew up in Stuttgart and Kirchberg an der Jagst . At the local boarding school Schloss-Schule Kirchberg , he was the student representative and was a member of the boarding board. After graduating from high school at the castle school, he acquired the degree of a diploma in administration .

From 1993 to 1996 he headed the main office of the city of Bad Wimpfen , in the same year he was elected mayor of the city of Steinheim an der Murr, and in 2004 he was re-elected. Since 2004 he sits for the Free Voters in the district assembly of the district Ludwigsburg. His candidacy for the mayor elections in Schorndorf in 2006 was unsuccessful, Scholz narrowly failed in the second ballot.

The Neckarsulm CDU was looking for a candidate for the 2008 mayoral election in Neckarsulm, in which incumbent Volker Blust did not run, and approached Scholz, who accepted and ran with the support of the CDU, the FDP , the Free Voters and the Greens . In the first ballot on July 27, 2008, Scholz won with 58.8% of the vote; his most important opponent, the Mayor of Neckarsulm Klaus Grabbe (SPD), came to 34.2%. Scholz took up his post on October 28, 2008. In 2016 Joachim Scholz was not re-elected.

Scholz is married and has two sons, Henry and Ben Scholz.
