Joachim Sillem

Joachim Sillem (born December 12, 1691 in Hamburg ; † October 3, 1737 ibid) was a German lawyer and Hamburg councilor .

Life

After his school education, Sillem studied law at the University of Groningen and received his doctorate there in 1718 under the chairmanship of Theodorus Muyckens (1665-1721) as a licensee of both rights.

In Hamburg, Sillem was elected council secretary on May 2, 1721 and councilor on September 18, 1728. In 1736 he took over the praetur as such , but died the following year. His brother-in-law Joachim Rentzel (1694–1768) was elected to the council in his place.

Sillem was a son of the councilor Helwig Sillem (1653-1714) and his wife Catharina Agneta Peters.

On July 29, 1721 he married Anna Margaretha Rentzel (1697–1736), widow of the lawyer Eberhard vom Kampe (1687–1720) and sister of the councilor Joachim Rentzel (1694–1768). The couple had five children. Of these, the son Joachim (1722–1778) received his doctorate in law and died unmarried as a lawyer in Hamburg, the daughter Anna Margaretha (1732–1788) married her cousin Garlieb Rentzel (1727–1796) and another son, the merchant Garlieb Helwig Sillem (1728–1801), married Louise Marie Matthiessen (1749–1826) and was the father of the merchant Hieronymus Sillem (1768–1833).
