Joachim Tschirner
Joachim Tschirner (born March 1, 1948 in Wittenberge ) is a documentary film director and member of the German Film Academy .
Life and work
In 1968 Joachim Tschirner graduated from the Berlin Handel High School . He learned the trade of a commercial typesetter.
From 1970 to 1974 he studied cultural theory and aesthetics at the Humboldt University in Berlin .
Since 1974 he has worked as an editor and since 1980 as an author and director in the DEFA studio for documentary films . In 1991 he was a co-founder of the authors' association and film production "UM WELT FILM".
He has written and directed more than thirty feature films and television documentaries, and has also worked in the fields of media policy and humanitarian aid.
“The director Joachim Tschirner,” says the book Black & White and Color , “was the only younger man to have his say at the last pre-Wende congress of film and television professionals in 1988 . He called for the ideas of perestroika and glasnost to be defended, which for the GDR amounted to a radical restructuring of society. "
Tschirner appeared as a speaker at the demonstration for freedom of travel, freedom of expression, freedom of the press and assembly on November 4, 1989 in East Berlin. In the speech, he doubted that a real turnaround would be possible as long as those were still sitting in the executive floors of the broadcasters and editorial offices who had only turned their chairs 180 degrees.
According to a report of the World Tschirner to several years under the code name "Hans Matusch" as IM for the Stasi have been active. Joachim Tschirner commented on this in the biographical collection of 21 DEFA directors published in autumn 2012. In it he rejects the newspaper's allegations. They neither reflected the content of the conversations with employees of the MfS nor Tschirner's positions. He said he did not write any denunciation reports and did not disclose any confidential information about anyone. According to Tschirner, his contacts with the Stasi were primarily about political disputes that did not differ from those that he had conducted in public.
After the board of directors and the executive committee of the GDR Film and Television Association had to resign in November 1989 , Tschirner was elected as the new chairman.
In 1996 he founded the aid organization Wasser für die Kinder des Aralsees e. V. , of which he was chairman until 2009. This association transported urgently needed goods to the disaster area at the Aral Sea with several aid transports. There the association rehabilitated the children's department of the Sultanov tuberculosis center in the capital of the Republic of Karakalpakistan , Nukus .
Tschirner is the father of the actress Nora Tschirner .
