Joachim Vogel (lawyer)

Joachim Reinhardt Vogel (born June 2, 1963 in Gießen ; † August 17, 2013 in Venice ) was a German legal scholar .

Life

After graduating from the Ernst Abbe-Gymnasium in Oberkochen in 1982 and completing basic military service , he studied law at the Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg from 1983 . There he passed the first state law examination in 1988 and completed the legal preparatory service from 1990 to 1993 . During this time he did his doctorate in 1992 at the Faculty of Law at the University of Freiburg. The second state examination in law followed in Stuttgart in 1994 .

From 1988 to 1990 and again from 1994 to 1999 he was a research assistant and assistant to Klaus Tiedemann in Freiburg. In 1999 he was awarded the venia legendi for criminal law , criminal procedure law , comparative law and legal theory by the law faculty of the University of Freiburg . In 1999 he went to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich as professor for criminal law and legal philosophy as well as legal informatics . From 2000 on he was professor for criminal law and criminal procedure law at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . From 2003 to 2005 he was Vice Dean of the Law Faculty of the University of Tübingen and from 2005 to 2008 Dean . Vogel returned to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in 2012 and taught criminal law, criminal procedure law and commercial criminal law there until his death . His research focus was capital market criminal law; there he was one of the most prominent experts in Germany.

Vogel had been a judge in the second main office at the Stuttgart Higher Regional Court , 1st criminal senate, since 2001 . Since January 2003 he has been co-editor of the JuristenZeitung . Furthermore, he was editor of the journal for the entire criminal law science and member of the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature .

Vogel died on August 17, 2013 in Venice when a gondola collided with a water taxi near the Rialto Bridge . His three-year-old daughter was seriously injured in the accident. His wife and eight- and ten-year-old sons were unharmed.
