Joaquín Piña Batllevell
Joaquín Piña Batllevell SJ (born May 25, 1930 in Sabadell ; † July 8, 2013 in Buenos Aires ) was Bishop of Puerto Iguazú .
Life
He entered the Society of Jesus and was ordained a priest on December 10, 1961 . He was sent to Paraguay, where he dealt intensively with social work for farmers and promoted the formation of the agrarian associations that had opposed the Stroessner regime on questions of land ownership.
Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Puerto Iguazú on June 16, 1986. The Bishop of Posadas , Jorge Kémérer SVD , donated him episcopal ordination on August 16 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Celso Yegros Estigarribia , Bishop of Carapeguá , and Miguel Hesayne , Bishop of Viedma .
On October 3, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related resignation. He died on July 8, 2013 in Austral Hospital in Buenos Aires of complications from a heart attack.
