Joaquim Eulálio do Nascimento e Silva (born April 1, 1883 in Araruama, Rio de Janeiro , † February 1, 1965 ) was a Brazilian diplomat .

Life

Joaquim Eulalio do Nascimento e Silva was the son of Maria Ignez do Nascimento e Silva and Francisco Eulálio do Nascimento e Silva. He married Lilian Margery. Her sons were Geraldo Eulálio do Nascimento e Silva and Leonardo Eulálio do Nascimento e Silva .

Silva studied at the Colégio Alfred Gomes and graduated in 1904 as a Bachelor of Laws from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro . A few years later he was editor of Jornal do Comércio and from 1913 correspondent for A Noite in London. On June 30, 1916 he was appointed consular laborer and sent to Paris , where he worked from June 15, 1916 to August 23, 1918. A day later, he was appointed consul in Glasgow , where he had the exequatur from August 28, 1918 to July 1, 1922 .

After Silva was employed in the Itamaraty from 1923 to 1926, he was transferred to London as Consul General from 1927 to 1929 . In 1931 he headed the economics department and in 1933 was a delegate in the preparation of the economic conference in Washington, DC and the world economic and currency conference in London .

From July 11 to September 11, 1934, Silva was accredited as envoy extraordinary and Ministre plénipotentiaire in Ankara and was partially responsible as envoy for Cairo from July 12 to September 17, 1934 . Subsequently, he was also deployed as envoy, first in Athens from September 14, 1934 to October 1, 1936 , then from June 1, 1939 to September 1939 in Warsaw and finally until 1940 in Paris .

In 1941, Silva chaired the Committee for the Defense of the Brazilian Economy and a year later the Conselho Federal do Comércio Exterior . From 1943 to 1944 Silva was again ordered as envoy to Tehran , before he was appointed ambassador to Chongqing from May 26, 1944 to August 31, 1946 , where he was accredited to Chiang Kai-shek on June 12, 1944 .
