Jobst Schönfeld

Jobst Schönfeld (born March 31, 1957 in Brünnighausen ) is a Brigadier General in the Bundeswehr and has been Deputy Commander of the Territorial Tasks Command of the Bundeswehr since May 2016 .

Military career

Training and first uses

In 1976, Jobst Schönfeld joined the 32nd Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Nienburg / Weser in the service of the German Armed Forces and went through the officer candidate course. From 1977 to 1980 he completed a degree in pedagogy at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg , which he graduated as a qualified pedagogue . After completing his studies, Schönfeld was reassigned to the 32nd Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Nienburg / Weser, where he was deployed from 1981 to 1988 as a platoon leader, S2 officer and company commander . This was followed by a job as an orderly officer with the Inspector of the Army in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn . From 1989 to 1991 Schönfeld completed the 32nd Army General Staff course at the command and control academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg.

Service as a staff officer

From 1991 to 1993 he was employed as a general staff officer for operational planning and leadership (G3 Op 2) with the I. Corps in Münster . From 1993 to 1994 Schönfeld completed his studies in US National Security Affairs at the United States Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey , California . Back in Germany, Schönfeld was then employed from 1994 to 1997 as a consultant for military strategy in the command staff of the armed forces (FüS III 2) in the Bonn Federal Ministry of Defense.

In 1997 he took over command of the 294 Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Stetten am kalten Markt , which he held until 1999. This was followed by assignments as a military policy officer ( State Department USA) in the command staff of the armed forces (Fü S III 1) in Berlin from 1999 to 2000 and from 2000 to 2001 as a military policy officer in the office of the State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin. From 2001 to 2004 Schönfeld was employed as a department head for operations in the staff of the 7th Panzer Division in Düsseldorf. During this time he served as Assistant Chief of Staff Operations of the Multinational Brigade Southwest at KFOR from May to September 2003.

Schönfeld was then transferred to SHAPE in Mons as Branch Chief Operations (J5 Plans) from 2004 to 2005 . This was followed by assignments as head of division for the military-political preparation of foreign missions of the Bundeswehr in the command staff of the armed forces (Fü S III 6) from 2005 to 2007 and as deputy head of military policy and arms control in the Federal Ministry of Defense (Fü S III) from 2007 to 2010.

Service as a general

Schönfeld was then appointed Brigadier General as the German military representative at SHAPE in Belgium from January 2011 to May 2013. He then took on the post of Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk, Virginia from June 2013 to March 2016. Since May 2016 he has been the Deputy Commander of the Territorial Tasks Command of the Bundeswehr in Berlin. In June 2016 Brigadier General Schönfeld took over the establishment of the “Reserve in the SKB” steering group, which he leads on behalf of the Deputy Inspector of the Armed Forces Base.
