Joe - Revenge is his (original title: Joe ) is an American film drama made in 2013 by director David Gordon Green with Nicolas Cage in the lead role.

action

Alcohol addicted ex-inmate Joe and his team illegally poison trees on behalf of clearing companies so that they can be felled and replaced by strong pine trees . One day, while at work, he runs into 15-year-old Gary. This is new in town and suffers from the violence of his tyrannical father Wade, who also has a serious drinking problem. The boy asks Joe to find a job for him. Gary gets the job and shows his best side at work, which pays off. On the next working day, Gary appears on site with his father, who is also supposed to earn money. This, however, stabs his son in the back by disrespecting the boss and not working, so that both of them are rid of the job.

After Gary is beaten again by his father, who does not understand that he is to blame for it, he runs to Joe in the rain at night and tries to explain to him that his father doesn't care about work, but that it is very important to him. So he gets another chance and meanwhile Joe can identify more and more with Gary, whom he even treats like a son in the course of the film.

Gary's father is now taking other measures to get some money by bashing an old, weak man in the head and stealing his wallet. Joe also comes into conflict with the law. First he has a fight in the bar with Willie-Russel, a man who has been enemies with Joe for a long time and even shot him at the beginning of the film; and finally, after trying to get rid of his grief in the brothel , he is ordered by the police to stop. He escaped and was sent to jail after he was stopped, but comes out the next day due to good relationships with a police officer.

One night, Gary is at Joe's door again. His father had beaten him up harder than ever and eventually stole Gary's truck that Joe had recently given him. Gary is determined to kill him and can hardly be comforted by Joe. He explains to Joe that his dad took his dumb sister with him and plans to meet up with a couple of guys, including the insane Willie-Russell. At first Gary just wants to take care of Joe's car and the matter by himself, but is later convinced that Joe is coming with him. Shortly afterwards, it is learned that Gary's father took his sister with him to extradite her to Willie-Russel and his friend, who most likely wanted to rape her, for some money. Upon arrival, Joe orders Gary to wait in the car and drive away if there is any major problem. Joe fires a warning shot in the air and pulls Willie-Russel and his friend away from the truck and fixes them with the gun. He lets the friend go. Gary drives off with his sister to get help.

While Joe threatens Willie, his friend shoots them both. Joe shoots the rifleman and Willie-Russel from the ground. He limps seriously injured to the bridge, where Gary's violent father Wade is. Like many others, Wade asks him if he is his friend. When Wade receives no answer, he voluntarily throws himself off the railing and dies. After Joe looks down one more time to make sure he's dead, he lies down against the bars of the bridge. When Gary finally arrives with the police, Joe is dying. He then bleeds to death in Gary's arms.

In the following part of the film you see Gary in front of his new employer, where he is planting new trees where he had once poisoned trees.
