Tye Kayle Sheridan (born November 11, 1996 in Elkhart , Texas ) is an American actor . He gained fame as a child actor through his film debut in The Tree of Life (2011).

Life

Tye Sheridan grew up in Elkhart, Texas, east of Houston , with his parents and a younger sister. He attended the independent school system there. He was discovered early in the casting for Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life (2011). The film tells the story of three brothers who grew up in the American Midwest in the 1950s and were confronted with different attitudes towards life from their parents (played by Jessica Chastain and Brad Pitt ).

The casting, which took a year, had over 10,000 children from Texas and Oklahoma . For the part of the eldest son Jack, who is played in adulthood by Sean Penn , a decision was made between twelve candidates who were invited to Austin, Texas . Although Sheridan lost the part to Hunter McCracken , he was hired as film brothers with Laramie Eppler , who was also favored . He was chosen to play the part of the youngest brother Steve and spent four months with his mother on the set in Smithville, Texas . The child actors and their parents were only shown the framework, not the exact script, as they were supposed to act as naturally as possible. Sheridan, who was inexperienced as an actor, received praise from specialist reviews along with McCracken and Eppler. The American industry service Variety rated Sheridan and Eppler as "wonderfully authentic" .

In his hometown junior high school , Sheridan excelled as a quarterback for the football team and as an award-winning track and field athlete. In 2012 he continued his film career with Jeff Nichols Mud . The drama, which, like The Tree of Life, received an invitation to the competition at the Cannes Film Festival , tells of two boys who help a fleeing police officer (played by Matthew McConaughey ) escape from an island in the Mississippi . A year later, Sheridan starred as Gary in David Gordon Green's drama Joe . For his performance as a hapless and wandering youth who sees a new father figure in an ex-convict (played by Nicolas Cage ), he won the Young Actor Award at the Venice International Film Festival .
