Joe Mondragon

Joseph "Joe" Mondragon (born February 2, 1920 in Los Angeles , California , † July 1987 in San Juan Pueblo , New Mexico ) was an American modern jazz bassist .

Life

Joe Mondragon started his career with Woody Herman in 1946, as well as with Boyd Raeburn , Bob Gordon and Charlie Barnet . In the 1950s he was one of the most sought-after freelance bassists on the American west coast with Monty Budwig and Carson Smith . He played u. a. with Georgie Auld , Chet Baker , Bob Cooper , Buddy DeFranco , Harry Sweets Edison , Ella Fitzgerald , Shelly Manne , Gerry Mulligan , Marty Paich , Art Pepper , Buddy Rich , Shorty Rogers and Bud Shank .
