Joerg Zboralski

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joerg Zboralski (born March 22, 1967 in Wattenscheid ; † March 27, 2014 in Hamburg ) was a German artist ( conceptual art , installations , photography , theater direction , stage design ).

Life

Joerg Zboralski studied painting with Gerhard Richter from 1985 to 1992 at the State Art Academy in Düsseldorf . He was his master class student since 1992. In 2002 he received the sponsorship award of the city of Düsseldorf. He was also funded by a New York scholarship and the Ernst Poensgen Foundation.

Zboralski's artistic work is based on a changed concept of authorship. With the intention of freeing art from the need for representation and decoration of bourgeois culture, Zboralski appropriates anti-auratic material, creates document collections from art history (constructivism, conceptual art, minimal, earth art) and esoteric border and pseudo areas (ufology , Science fiction). He incorporates the cult of devotional items from youth culture pop phenomena as well as non-artistic materializations in order to create a new spiritual system from apparently disparate worlds. In doing so, he takes up natural science as well as humanities methodologies, because the work does not develop as an individualistic self-expression but rather expresses itself as a model of references, references, references and connotations. The distance to the general self-image of artistic authorship resulting from this concept of the work makes it necessary to change the presentation mechanisms for the work. Zboralski takes on scientific and museological devices that act as formal systems as substitute functions. In order to systematize his collections, research and material agglomerations, to concentrate and to bring them to a sparkling point, the artist assumes the roles of curator, client, art historian and his own museum director. The individual work is relativized as a social process in which there are many participants.
