Branch in Hamburg

The Joey's Pizza Service (Germany) GmbH , shortly Joey's , founded in 1988 by Carsten Gerlach in Hamburg founded, was their first branch in Hamburg.

In 2008 Joey's Pizza International GmbH (formerly Joey's Pizza Service GmbH) was founded in order to open up new markets. According to the company, an expansion to Austria and Switzerland was initially planned. However, until the takeover by Domino's Pizza, these goals were not implemented. On October 28, 2008, a profit and loss transfer agreement was concluded with Joey's Pizza International GmbH .

Joey's Pizza Hamburg was one of the ten largest gastro franchisors and the highest-selling pizza delivery service in Germany before Hallo Pizza .

In 2012, the franchisees were able to increase their net sales by 10 percent to 120.2 million euros compared to the previous year. In the same year, Joey's Pizza Service was ranked 9th in the Impulse ranking of the 100 best franchise systems in Germany, although only 131 of around 1000 franchise systems in Germany took part.

Most deliveries were made with the company's own delivery vehicles ( scooters , bicycles or cars ), and since the beginning of 2012 in Hamburg also with electric scooters . In order to reach his guests, the franchisee offered his customers two distribution channels (delivery service and direct consumption).

The head office in Hamburg looked after around 130 self-employed franchisees who employ around 5,000 full-time and part-time employees. The core product was pizzas in international flavors and sizes. In addition, salads , pasta dishes , baguettes , drinks and desserts were offered. Since 1997, Joey's has also been offering orders over the Internet.

In mathematical terms, every third Joey's franchisee ran more than one business. Two operating variants were offered to potential franchisees: Joey's Delivery (65 to 100 square meters) and Joey's Delivery with PizzaBar (90 to 150 square meters). The “Joey's Delivery Flagship Store” concept was implemented several times.

Takeover by Domino's Pizza

In December 2015, the world's largest pizza restaurant chain Domino's Pizza, which has so far not been very successful in Germany, announced the takeover of Joey's Pizza at a price between 45 and 79 million euros. Domino's became the market leader in Germany. The owner became a joint venture, in which the British Domino's Pizza Group ( master franchisee for Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg, among others) one third and the Australian Domino's Pizza Enterprises (master franchisee for Australia, Japan, France, the Netherlands and Belgium) holds two thirds of the shares. Once approved, the transaction should be completed by spring 2016.

In the summer of 2016, after a successful takeover, Joey's branches were gradually changed to the branding of Domino's Pizza. The changeover was completed at the turn of the year 2016/17. Since January 1st 2017 the company is called Domino's Pizza Deutschland GmbH .

In October 2017 Domino's Pizza Deutschland took over the competitor Hallo Pizza for 32 million euros.
