Johan Georg Bøhmer Campbell

Johan Georg Bøhmer Campbell (born July 25, 1835 in Sandviken, Bergen (Norway) , † August 19, 1871 ibid) was a Norwegian landscape painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Campbell was initially taught by the painter Hans Leganger Reusch (1800-1854) in Bergen. In 1854 he traveled to Düsseldorf , where he - living in poor conditions - attended the landscape class of Hans Fredrik Gude from 1855 to 1860 at the Royal Prussian Art Academy . In addition, there were Rudolf Wiegmann and Adolph Tidemand his teachers. Gude advised the early genre painter to paint landscapes. In 1860 Campbell returned to Norway. There he worked as a landscape painter and private drawing teacher. He died sick and poor at the age of 36.
