Johan III van Montfoort (* around 1448 in Montfoort ; † March 28, 1522 ibid) from the house of the Burgraves of Montfoort was the 9th Burgrave of Montfoort , Vrijheer of the Magnificent Polsbroek , Purmerend - Purmerland as well as of Abbenbroek and Linschoten . Johan III was born the son of the burgrave Hendrik IV. van Montfoort and Margretha von Croÿ . After the father's death, political tensions arose between Johan III. and the Utrecht Bishop David of Burgundy on the outbreak. In 1481 he joined the Hook and Cod wars at the forefront of the uprising of the hook against the cod -party the bishop. Johan III besieged Utrecht and already had a successor candidate in Tallon in Engelbert von Kleve . This coup failed and Johan III. itself was besieged in Montfoort by the troops of the future emperor Maximilian of Austria .
