Johann Adam Förster

Johann Adam Förster (born August 27, 1795 in Grüsselbach , † March 22, 1890 in New York ) was a German publisher and politician . He was one of the founders of the democratic newspaper Teutsches Volksblatt , which appeared in Fulda in 1832 .

Förster studied economics, agriculture and law at the universities in Würzburg , Jena and Marburg . During his studies, he became a member of several fraternities : Old Bonn Burschenschaft / General (1819), Old Würzburg Burschenschaft (1820), Arminia Aschaffenburg Burschenschaft (1820, co-founder), Jena Burschenschaft (1821), Old Burschenschaft Germania Marburg (1823). As a fraternity member he was arrested in 1823 and imprisoned for six years.

He became mayor of Hünfeld in 1846 .

At the time of the German Revolution (1848) he was one of the outstanding personalities in the pre-parliament , the German National Assembly in the Paulskirche in Frankfurt . There he belonged to the left parliamentary group Deutscher Hof . He was also a member of the Hessian Estates Assembly from 1848 to 1850 .

After the failure of the revolution, Förster had to flee Hünfeld, he stayed briefly in Buttlar (which was then part of Weimar ). He later emigrated to America.
