General Johann Albrecht von Bülow

Johann Albrecht von Bülow (born December 27, 1708 in Glubenstein , † September 19, 1776 in Berlin ) was a Prussian infantry general under Frederick the Great . Von Bülow was a member of the High Order of the Black Eagle , governor of the Spandau Citadel near Berlin and sovereign of Berlin-Lichterfelde .

He came from the Mecklenburg nobility of the von Bülow family and was the eldest son of the Prussian officer Daniel Levin von Bülow (1677–1758) and his wife Dorothea Margarethe von Schlubhut (1691–1742).

Life

He joined the cadet corps early on and became a squire with General Leopold von Anhalt-Dessau . He was there at the Battle of Mollwitz and is said to have brought the message of victory to Berlin. Even after the battle of Chotusitz he was probably one of the messengers. In 1743 he became major in the Margrave Karl regiment , in May 1750 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel, in September 1754 colonel and on March 21, 1757 major general.

In 1757 he became regiment owner of the Prussian Fusilier Regiment Alt-Württemberg (later Infantry Regiment No. 46 ). He was promoted to lieutenant general on February 6, 1760. During the Battle of Liegnitz on August 15, 1760, he was able to stop the Austrian cavalry with his right wing. For this he was awarded the Order of the Black Eagle on the battlefield . On November 3, 1760 in the Battle of Torgau , his brother Christoph Karl von Bülow also became major general. He himself was taken prisoner a short time later. In 1766 he became governor of the Spandau Citadel and also bought the Lichterfelde and Giesensdorf estates . He also owned a house in Berlin where he died in 1776. In 1775 he was appointed general of the infantry.

On August 16, 1762, Premier-Lieutenant Friedrich von Collas (1727–1762) saved his life in the battle of Reichenbach . Collas himself was killed there by a cannonball. For this reason in particular, Bülow felt obliged to support his brother, the captain (captain) Johann Jakob von Collas , during his years of internment at the Magdeburg fortress (1760–1786).

Bülow is buried with his wife in the family crypt under the village church in Berlin-Lichterfelde .
