In February 1784 he was offered a job in Norka, a city on the Volga in Russia. On April 1, 1784, he traveled to Barby , where he stayed a little longer. On June 9th he arrived in St. Petersburg , on June 26th he traveled on to Moscow and from there via Saratov back to Norka, where he arrived on August 3rd, 1784.
