Johann Betichius
Johann Betichius (born October 18, 1650 in Steckby , † June 13, 1722 in Zerbst ) was a German Protestant clergyman and hymn poet .
Life
Born the son of a pastor , he studied theology at the University of Wittenberg from August 1666 . In order to continue his education, he started studying again on April 23, 1672 in Wittenberg . During this time he wrote hymns that in Zerbst Hymns were incorporated, including the songs jauchtzt to you Christians and jumps or Drop down ye heavens . Among his songs is the professional song Das walte Gott, who can help , which at the time was widely and permanently distributed. In 1689 he went to Zerbst as a theologian and was ordained pastor at the suburban church of Zerbst. In 1706 he became a deacon at the Zerbster Trinity Church .
