Johann Bocerus

Johann Bocerus, also Bocer, Boedeker, Böker, Booker, (born December 24, 1523 in Salzkotten or Hausberge , † October 6, 1565 in Rostock ) was a German Latin poet and historian.

Life

Bocerus attended school in Minden when he was 9 years old and enrolled at the University of Wittenberg in 1541 . In Wittenberg he studied under Georg Sabinus and obtained the academic degree of a master's degree . In 1550 he moved to the University of Leipzig and in 1555 went to the University of Frankfurt (Oder) . There he became Poeta laurus and taught poetics from 1556. In 1558 he became professor of poetry at the University of Rostock , was licentiate in 1564 and in 1564 was dean of the philosophical faculty.

Bocerus wrote "Libri III de orgine et rebus gestis Ducum Megapolensium carmine elegiaco" (Leipzig 1559), Elegien (1554), seven eclogues (1563) and the Carmina Sacra (1565). A Latin poem "De origine, antiquitate et celebritate urbis Mindae" goes back to him, where he talks about the origin, age and importance of the city of Minden. In a Proömium , Bocerus thanks for the meritorious efforts of the Minden Council, for the education of the youth and the effort to lead them to virtue with decency.
