Johann Broye

Johann Broye (also Jean ; born September 12, 1828 in Freiburg im Üechtland ; † June 19, 1899 in Lausanne ) was a Swiss lawyer .

Johann Broye was born as the son of the geometer commissioner Jean-Joseph Broye. He graduated from the College of St. Michael in Freiburg and studied law in 1847/48 at the University of Zurich and 1849/50 at the University of Jena . In Jena he became a member of the Arminia fraternity in the castle cellar in 1848 . After completing his studies, worked from 1851 as a legal advisor in Friborg and from 1853 to 1855 as a clerk at the cantonal court . In 1854 he was a lecturer for Roman law at the academic courses of the canton school . In 1855 he was admitted to the bar .

From 1855 to 1876 Broye was professor of Roman law, public law and natural law at the law school, which later became the University of Freiburg . In addition, he continued to work as a lawyer. From 1872 he was a substitute and assistant judge and from 1876 until his death a judge at the federal court , which he presided over from 1895 to 1896.

From 1862 to 1874 he was a member of the Freiburg municipal council (executive), he was a member of the school committee and the hospital committee. From 1866 to 1871 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Friborg . He was also President of the Teachers' Association and a member of the General Council of Freiburg.

From 1857 to 1865 he was a captain in the Swiss Army , and also commander of the 13th Company of the Elite Guard.
