Johann Carl Landeck

Johann Carl Landeck (born December 16, 1636 in Nuremberg , Franconian Circle , † July 15, 1712 there ) was a German watchmaker and instrument maker .

Life

After training as a locksmith in Nuremberg, he traveled through the Netherlands , Denmark , Holstein and Prussia back to Nuremberg in 1662. After the death of his father, Andreas Landeck , he took over his position as town clockmaker. He was one of the first in Nuremberg to manufacture pendulum clocks based on the principle of Christiaan Huygens . He became a master locksmith and in 1693 a jury member in Nuremberg.

Landeck also made astronomical instruments such as astrolabes , sundials and an astronomical clock , which came to the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in 1864 .
