Johann Caspar Heimburg (born September 14, 1702 in Gotha ; † November 18, 1773 in Jena ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Johann Caspar was the son of the Gotha merchant and councilor Sebastian Heimburg and his wife Margaretha Catharina Schneider. He attended the Illustre grammar school in Gotha, where he was strongly influenced by Gottfried Vockerodt . In 1719 he moved to the University of Jena , where he initially completed philosophical studies and then turned to law. Above all, Johann Philipp Slevogt , Christian Wildvogel , Kaspar Achatius Beckhis formative teachers. In 1729 he earned his doctorate in law, was given an extraordinary professorship at the Faculty of Law in 1730 and became a lawyer at the court in 1733. On October 27, 1733 he took over the full professorship of the institutes and was associated with the assessor at the Jena court and Schöppenstuhl.

In 1736 he was promoted to the professorship of the Pandekten Patris secunda and was associated with it as assessor of the law faculty, in 1742 he took over the Pandektenprofessur Patris primae, in 1743 the professorship of the Codex and the Novellas and was connected to it senior of the Schöppenstuhl. In June 1744 he was appointed Saxon Councilor of Gotha and Altenburg, he became professor of canon law in 1745, with which the position of professor of the Faculty of Law and the Schöppenstuhl was connected. In 1759 he was appointed secret councilor, in February 1764 he became interim assessor at the consistory, worked as a member of the Saxon-Weimar region and was an honorary member of the Society of Higher Sciences in Jena. In addition, he also participated in the organizational tasks of the Jena University. He was dean of the law faculty several times and in the summer semesters 1741, 1747 and 1759 rector of the alma mater . Independent works do not come from his pen. Nevertheless, some programs and dissertations bear his name, which were primarily created in the context of his university teaching activities.

Heimburg was married twice. His first marriage was on June 11, 1737 in Jena with Carolina Sophia Weissenborn († March 12, 1741 in Jena), the daughter of the theologian Jesaias Friedrich Weissenborn . There are three children from the marriage. His second marriage was on June 3, 1748 in Jena with Christiana Louise Magdalena Weissenborn, the younger sister of his first wife.
