Johann Christian Gottlob Eidenbenz

Johann Christian Gottlob Eidenbenz (born October 22, 1761 in Owen near Kirchheim unter Teck , † August 20, 1799 in Stuttgart ) was a German composer .

Life

He was the eldest son of Johannes Eidenbenz (1737-1815), Preceptor in Owen, and his wife Johanna Christiana geb. Loew (1724-1772). Eidenbenz received his music education from 1776 to 1784 as a pupil of the Karlsschule , roughly at the same time as Johann Rudolf Zumsteeg and Friedrich Schiller . As early as 1782 he became a violist and alto at the Stuttgart court theater of Duke Carl Eugen von Württemberg . Johann Christian Gottlob Eidenbenz composed ballet music, songs and many small piano pieces. On February 8, 1789, he married Rosine Justine Ziegler, daughter of the body grenadier Johannes Ziegler, in Stuttgart.

Eidenbenz suffered from alcoholism. In early 1799 this led to his untimely death.

With Christian Friedrich Daniel Schubart and Johann Rudolf Zumsteeg , he is one of the representatives of the Swabian song school that was flourishing in those years .
