history
After the end of the Second World War, the Palatinate was under French occupation and became part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate , which was founded on August 30, 1946 . In Bavaria, however, efforts were made to reintegrate the Palatinate into the Free State of Bavaria as the former 8th Bavarian administrative district . A number of activities were intended to serve this goal: In 1949 the regional association of the Palatinate in Bavaria was founded as the umbrella organization for the Palatinate associations. On March 10, 1950, the Bavarian State Parliament decided to set up a Palatinate Committee to which 28 members, including all members of the Council of Elders, belonged. The Bavarian State Parliament and the Senate made official trips to the Palatinate, which sparked protests from the Rhineland-Palatinate state government. In the State Chancellery and in the ministries, as well as in numerous district offices and large cities, Palatinate departments were set up and Palatinate officers appointed. Bavarian state parliament members and members of the government founded the Association of Palatinate Friends in Bavaria in 1950. The founding meeting took place on March 21, 1950 in the plenary hall of the Maximilianeum . However, the Bavarian efforts did not lead to the hoped-for success. For a referendum initiated in 1956, only 7.6% in the Palatinate, and thus less than the required 10%, of the Palatinate people eligible to vote, so that there was no referendum on the return of the Palatinate to Bavaria. This failure led in the following years to the political ambition of regaining the Palatinate on the Bavarian side. The Association of Friends of the Palatinate in Bavaria limited itself to maintaining historically grown relationships with the Palatinate.
