Johann Christoph Moser , also Moser-Ott , (born June 21, 1819 in Schaffhausen ; † September 2, 1911 there , entitled to live in Schaffhausen) was a Swiss politician .

Johann Christoph Moser was born in Schaffhausen on June 21, 1819, the son of Johannes Moser, a kit maker, and Vogel, who was born in Barbara. After attending grammar school in Schaffhausen, he completed an apprenticeship as a kit smith in Winterthur , then from 1838 to 1842 he went on a journey to Germany , France and Eastern Europe .

From 1842 to 1846 he managed his father's iron shop in Schaffhausen. As a result, Moser was employed as an official in the city chancellery from 1846 to 1848, as a police secretary from 1858 to 1864 and as a registrar from 1858 to 1864 .

In addition, in 1863 he co-founded the steam shipping company for the Untersee and Rhine and in 1872 the mechanical twine factory in Schaffhausen in Flurlingen . Between 1866 and 1898 Moser was president of the waterworks company. Moser also campaigned for the construction of the Moser Dam, named after the Schaffhausen industrialist Heinrich Moser , which supplied the Schaffhausen industry with hydropower . He also promoted the connection of the city to the railroad.

Johann Christoph Moser, who married Anna Elisabeth, the daughter of the administrator of the Schaffhausen penal institution Johannes Ott, in 1842, died on September 2, 1911 a few months after he had turned 92 in Schaffhausen.

Political career

At community level, Moser belonged to the city council from 1861 to 1873 and 1876 to 1884, which he presided over from 1865 to 1866. At cantonal level he worked between 1862 and 1867 and 1872 and 1875 in the Schaffhausen Cantonal Council and between 1867 and 1872 and 1875 and 1906 as police and building director in the government council , which he chaired six times. In addition, he was represented on the Constitutional Council from 1873 to 1876 and from 1895 to 1899 and also served as president of the community from 1874 to 1876 .
