Johann Fidel Erggelet

Johann Fidel Erggelet (* 1751 in Waldshut ; † February 19, 1815 in Vienna ) was an Austrian diplomat, administrative officer and financial expert who was raised to the baron status in 1808 .

Life

Johann Fidel Erggelet was born in 1751 in Waldshut, in what was then Upper Austria . The family, with the spelling at that time Oergele, can be traced back to Waldshut as a musical instrument maker since the 17th century. Were manufactured organs , strings and sounds . The older brother Konrad emigrated to Freiburg im Breisgau in 1774 and settled there as a lute and violin maker. Johann Fidel Erggelet entered the civil service after studying law and quickly made a career in the Gubernium of Galicia . As a diplomatic agent, after the fifth Russo-Turkish War from 1768 to 1774, he achieved the incorporation of Bukovina into the Austrian hereditary lands, although Austria was not a warring party. In 1789 Johann Fidel Erggelet led the council of the five Moldau districts. In 1791 he moved to the imperial and royal combined court chancellery as a councilor. In 1797 he was appointed court advisor to the directorate in Vienna. Due to his merits, Johann Fidel Erggelet was knighted by the ku St. Stephen's Order and in 1808 raised to the status of hereditary baron. Johann Fidel Erggelet earned further services in finance. In 1811 he was instrumental in overcoming the national bankruptcy . Johann Fidel Erggelet died in Vienna in 1815, leaving behind an immense fortune.
