Johann Franz Joseph von Nesselrode-Reichenstein

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Franz Joseph Graf von Nesselrode-Reichenstein (born September 21, 1755 in Vondern Castle ; † October 24, 1824 in Herten ) was the Electorate of Cologne's secret extra-conference council and from 1786 to 1795 the president of the court council, chief chamberlain , governor of Vest Recklinghausen , bailiff in Kempen , Oedt , Blankenberg and Steinbach , Hereditary Marshal and Chamberlain of the Duchy of Berg and Hereditary Director of the Bergische Knighthood .

Life

He was a son of Johann Wilhelm Maximilian von Nesselrode-Landskron (* around 1726–1800) and Maria Theresia Auersperg (1729–1803). On his father's side, he came from the noble family Nesselrode , namely the Nesselrode-Landskron line, which, after the Nesselrode-Reichenstein line had died out, inherited the title of imperial count acquired by Franz von Nesselrode-Reichenstein in 1702 .

After the occupation of the Left Bank of the Rhine by the French ( see French times ), he retired to his Herten Castle in Vest Recklinghausen around 1801 , from where he initially continued to exercise his official duties in the Electorate of Cologne, until the secularization of the territories on the right bank of the Rhine, and Kurköln was dissolved in 1803 lost all of his offices.

In 1806 the new Grand Duke von Berg Joachim Murat recruited him for the office of Minister of the Interior, which also included the departments of the Minister of War and Justice. In 1812 he also became President of the Council of State. On December 30, 1811, he was appointed an officer of the Legion of Honor by Napoleon .

When the Grand Duchy of Berg was dissolved at the end of the Napoleonic era in 1813, he retired again to his Castle in Herten and from then on no longer held any public offices.

Marriage and offspring

Since July 22, 1777 he was married to Johanna Felicitas Countess von Manderscheid, daughter of Johann Wilhelm Graf von Manderscheid-Blankenheim and Princess Luise Franziska Wilhelmine zu Salm-Salm . With her he had seven children:

  • Johann Wilhelm Karl Franz (* July 5, 1778; † March 31, 1822) ∞ Countess Karoline Auguste von Nesselrode (* June 16, 1787) (The widow marries NN von Müller)
  • Maria Karoline Theresia Josepha (* September 13, 1779; † January 21, 1858) ∞ Adolf Heidenreich, Freiherr Droste zu Vischering (* 1769; † 1826)
  • Johann Wilhelm August Franz (May 6, 1781 - February 2, 1782)
  • Johann Maximilian Friedrich Franz (February 26, 1783 - September 1, 1813)
  • Maria Sophia Philippina (September 9, 1784, † 1839)
  • Johann Franz Joseph (born September 10, 1786; † October 1787)
  • Maria Theresia Wilhelmina (born April 4, 1788)

Since his sons all died before him, one grandson became the sole heir and bearer of his name. It was Felix Droste Vischering zu Nesselrode-Reichenstein (* 1808 in Münster ; † 1865 Schloss Herten ), the son of his eldest daughter Maria Karoline Theresia Josepha, the second wife of Erbdroste Adolf Heidenreich Freiherr Droste zu Vischering (1769-1826). Felix, however, had to be raised to the rank of count and adopt the Nesselrode coat of arms along with the name. On this occasion, the king also elevated the ancestral line of Droste zu Vischering to the rank of count.
