Johann Friedrich Olearius (born February 26, 1661 in Halle (Saale) , † January 24, 1689 in Langensalza ) was a German Lutheran theologian .

Life

The son of Johannes Olearius was trained by private tutors in his early youth. On July 3, 1679 he entered the University of Leipzig , graduated from there on May 3, 1679 the Baccalaurat and acquired on January 28, 1680 the academic degree of Magister of philosophy. According to the customs of the time, he went on an educational trip, which he completed from 1683 on. Among other things, he had gone to the University of Tübingen , where he obtained a licentiate in theology from Johann Adam Osiander (1622–1697) .

When his brother Johann August Olearius moved to Weißenfels as general superintendent of the Principality of Querfurt , he was ordained on January 2, 1685 in Leipzig as senior pastor at the St. Jacobi Church and superintendent in Sangerhausen and gave his suit sermon on January 11. In 1689 he became pastor of St. Stephen's Church and superintendent in Langensalza . He remained in this office until he died of stone disease. Only sermons from different occasions have come down to us. He hardly seems to have written any major exegetical works as the official head of his administrative districts. A painting depicting him is in his last place of work.
