Johann Friedrich Weigand (born February 26, 1786 in Kempen , † October 23, 1866 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

His parents were Johann Christian Weigand and his wife Susanne Dorothea, née Dreßler.

Military career

On September 13, 1800, Weigand joined the 2nd Artillery Regiment of the Prussian Army as a gunner . During the Fourth Coalition War , on December 26, 1806, he was promoted to Second Lieutenant of the fortress artillery in the fortress Neisse and took part in the defense of Neisse and Breslau. After the war he received his farewell on June 16, 1806 .

Weigand was re-employed on November 16, 1812 in the Silesian Artillery Brigade. During the Wars of Liberation , he fought in the battles near Bautzen , Dresden , Kulm and Namur , where he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class and finally also at Waterloo . He also fought in the battles at Haynau and Fleurus and the sieges of Erfurt , Maubeuge, Philippeville, Landrecies, Rocroy and Givet.

After the war, Weigand became captain of the West Prussian Artillery Brigade on May 23, 1816 and was promoted to major and department commander by mid-December 1828 . On March 30, 1840, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on April 7, 1842, he came to the Neisse fortress as colonel and second in command. From November 14, 1845, he was employed as a commandant of the Spandau Fortress . On the occasion of his 50th anniversary of service, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. On June 8, 1852 Weigand was awarded the character as a major general with board adopted . He died in Berlin on October 23, 1866 and was buried in the garrison cemetery on October 26, 1866 .

family

Weigand married Henriette Ernestine Friederike Schlenker (1798–1864) in Schweidnitz on November 14, 1825. The couple had a daughter named Elise.
